What is a noindex HTTP header?

The X-Robots-Tag: noindex HTTP header is a server-level directive that prevents search engines from indexing a page. Unlike the meta tag, it works for non-HTML files like PDFs and images.

How is the noindex header different from the noindex meta tag?

Both achieve the same result, but the HTTP header is set at the server level and applies to any file type, while the meta tag is placed in HTML only. The HTTP header takes effect even before the page content is parsed.
